Former Philippine First Lady Amelita “Ming” Ramos was reportedly booted out of her post as the head of the Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) due to board members’ allegations that she has continuously disrespected the organization’s officials.
According to reports, four board members led by Errol Chan, a former national coach, sent a letter to the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) stating that they have removed Ramos from her post as PBA President. This was confirmed by POC legal counsel Ramon Malinao in an interview with local media.
One of the reasons stated by Chan in the letter is Ramos’ continuous absence during group meetings since she assumed office in June. The conflict on leadership has been brewing for quite some time considering that the Former First Lady was elected the organization’s president in absentia last May.
Despite this development, Ramos insisted that she is still the legitimate president of the PBA. Ramos was in China when the news broke out.
She added that it is during her leadership that the organization has performed based on the results provided by the players. She revealed that the country’s juniors players are ranked tenth in the world and are now competing at a world-class badminton event in Malaysia this week. She stressed that Chan never produced players with these caliber during his days as the national badminton coach.
