The internet is a place that can be used for many things and one of those things is money. People sell products online, services online, and they also make money off of advertising and affiliate revenue. With all the money to be made online it is easy for others to want to jump in and replicate other successful websites they see. The problem with that is, just because one guy is make a few thousand every month does not mean everyone can. That person may have several techniques to making the money he or she is making but the overall key is most likely good content. The best way to have good content is to know your subject. If you create a copycat website on a subject you are unfamiliar with, and expect to make a killing, you will not.
Instead of chasing after those that are making good money on a specific subject you would be better of creating a site based on your interests that you have a deep knowledge of. Doing so will allow you to create quality content and you will enjoy doing it and surely, the money will follow. So next time you think about throwing up a crappy website just for cash, don’t do it, just turn your attention toward quality and everything else will follow.

From 8 April thru 16 April 2006.
This is the final weight loss diary entry that I will be publishing because although I was still half pound (225 grams) short of my target weight on Friday April 14 I extended this session by another couple of days to make my target. Sunday’s weigh-in saw my weight at 180 pounds (89 kilo’s) the target I set on February 5 when my weight was 198 pounds (98 kilo’s).
At the start of the weight loss program the target was set to lose one pound (450 grams) each week making it an 18-week assignment; it has been achieved in just 10 weeks. During this period no food that I like has been given up for more than one-day at a time and exercise has been set at just 30-minutes each week. (However I must state that as I got into the exercise regime and started enjoying the added fitness it did increase to about an hour each week).
So what was the most successful thing about the program?
A tough question to answer because each part of the program is so important. However if pushed to pick one single thing it must be learning about serving sizes. Ignoring healthy serving sizes is the biggest cause of obesity in the western world.
What did I like most about the program?
That’s an easy question because I liked regaining aerobic fitness above everything else. Not just the formal exercise part of the program but just being more aware of including exercise in my daily life. Stopping delivery of my daily newspaper and walking to buy it each morning. Parking my car as far as possible from the supermarket entrance was great in two ways: First it made me walk a little further to and from the car. Second I rarely had a problem parking the car and it was totally hassle free - a beautiful way to live your life. Then there was refusing to use any escalator if stairs were available. Now I find myself looking for hills to walk up for no other reason than the challenge. This added mobility has another added benefit; I’ve met so many new and interesting people who take regular exercise.
The benefit of losing 18 pounds (9 kilo’s) is good for my health, but even better for my social life is the new people that I’ve met and my rediscovered aerobic fitness. Life is really great.
From emails that I receive I know that some people are following this program with me and some are beating my results while others are not quite on par. The great thing is that even the least successful is still losing one-pound each week and that is the program target. Congratulations. Even if you are 200 pounds overweight it will only take four years at most to achieve your target without giving up anything that you like. The only question you need answer is do I want to lose one-pound (450 grams) each week?

This article relates to the Compensation and Benefits competency, commonly evaluated in employee satisfaction surveys. It tells the story of a company that needed to attract new employees and discovered how a competitive wage and benefits package was integral to this process. The Compensation and Benefits competency focuses in detail on how your employees feel regarding their compensation and benefits packages. The questions included in this competency will help your organization determine whether your employees feel they are fairly paid for the work they perform when compared to a similar job at a different company. This competency also queries their feelings regarding the adequacy and quality of their benefits package. A fair and attractive compensation package is critical for hiring and retaining quality employees. A high satisfaction level in this competency requires that your compensation structure and benefits package be fair, balanced, and understood by your present employees.
This short story, The Importance of a Competitive Wage and Benefit Package, is part of AlphaMeasure’s compilation, Tales From the Corporate Frontlines. It illustrates how one company discovered the importance of evaluating its wage and benefits package and adjusting it to stay competitive and attract new employees.

The Importance of a Competitive Wage and Benefit Package
My business partner and I recently took control of a small company that provides products and services to a very specific and narrow market segment. One of our first tasks was to fill a number of open positions in various departments. Most of the employees were long term, but we learned that the open positions had been filled and vacated several times over the past year.
We wondered why it was so difficult to attract and retain qualified people with the specialized skills we needed. In a discussion with some friends, an executive for a manufacturing firm asked if the compensation and benefits package had been evaluated lately. He told us that if it’s been a long time, low salaries and/or benefits might be the obstacle we needed to remove.
In fact, it was. In our first weeks at the company, we launched an employee satisfaction survey that showed us how many employees felt that they were not being paid competitive wages when compared to people doing similar jobs at other companies. Further analysis of the results convinced us that we needed to reevaluate and adjust the salary and benefits structure in order to attract and retain the caliber of skilled employee needed to operate the company profitably.
First, we gathered detailed information from a number of Internet databases on salary structures. Then we compared our structure and saw that we were on the lowest fringe of the salary range.
Unable to manage large-scale increases all at once, we developed a plan to phase in the increases over a period of time, and broke each position down into ranges according to expertise and experience.
We offered a hiring bonus, and developed a competitive bonus plan based on performance, staggering the payments over several quarters to encourage employee retention.
Then we examined the fringe benefits portion of the package. We also added an optional long-term disability insurance plan, with employees paying a portion of the premium.
Our company achieved the desired results by making these changes. As it turned out, the timing was perfect - long time employees would have moved on if we had taken no action. Next time, we’ll be sure to make it a priority to reevaluate and adjust our compensation and benefits package on a regular basis.

Whether you’re a first-time homeowner or moving on up the property ladder, home buying can be tricky. How do you draw the line between a money pit and a diamond in the rough? Here are three things to keep in mind. Depending on the circumstances, these might be reasons not to buy.
Neighborhood. Unlike the rental world, where neighbors last a year, a house is a long-term commitment. Your neighbors when you move in may very well be your neighbors for some time to come, and that’s something to keep in mind when looking at a potential new home. Also consider proximity of the house to things like schools, stores, and major roads. If there’s a highway nearby, some questionable properties, an unfriendly feeling, or anything else that feels uncertain, it might be wise to give that house a pass. After all, you might be able to fix your house, but you can’t fix your neighborhood.
Major repairs. Many inexperienced home buyers make the mistake of not checking out every aspect of the property thoroughly. Getting a great deal on a house with a roof that needs replacing is not that great of a deal. Check out the furnace, central air, and the plumbing and electrical systems. Major problems don’t necessarily mean you shouldn’t buy the property, but they should be included in the price negotiations. A good realtor or seller will factor in such considerations, and you may be able to buy the house for less if it’s understood that you’re responsible for replacing the roof. Just don’t get duped. Don’t take anyone’s word that the furnace is new- make sure of it.
Water Damage. Check this one out- thoroughly. Is the house located in a high-flood area? Is something important (like the roof or basement) leaking? If water damage occurred once it’s not likely to stop unless the problem- aka the flow of water- is corrected. This could lead to expensive irrigation systems and internal repairs. I heard a horror story of a house that began with a water spot on a wall, and led to removing the floor and vacuuming out two feet of water. Water damage is often a sign of a bigger problem. Unless you can trace it to its source and identify how to stop it, it might be best to steer away from water-damaged property altogether. Why sign up for trouble?
Keeping your eyes open going into a real estate negotiation is the most important thing. If something doesn’t feel right, trace it backwards until you figure out why, and then decide if it’s worth it to go ahead with the purchase. Sometimes you’ll find it’s easy to walk away from a great house in a bad neighborhood. Other times, you can get your purchase price substantially reduced if you can point out exactly what repairs are needed. The trick is to catch those needed fixes- because the seller may not point them out for you.

Chicago is a great town for dining out, especially for a romantic dinner!
The Windy City is well known for its steaks and ribs, with establishments like Magnum’s and Morton’s specializing in Grade A prime beef. Pizza is also a local favorite, and the city has a huge selection of Italian and Greek restaurants too.
It’s not easy narrowing down the choices for romantic dining in Chicago, but we’ve discovered 3 places that we think will not disappoint. Enjoy…
Everest: 40 floors up at the One Financial Place Skyscraper. It’s been called one of the finest restaurants in Chicago by more then one reviewer! Rich French cuisine, a comprehensive wine list, and work-of-art desert offerings. The service and the ambience are all first rate. Price-wise this is not for budget-minded romantic diners, but more of a special occasion experience. 440 S. La Salle St., 40th Floor Chicago, IL
Red Rooster Wine Bar & Cafe: Perfect for a romantic and reasonably priced dinner out. Cozy setting with tasty French fare including duck a l’orange and one of my all time faves, creme brulee. Many entrees priced in the $12-15 range. 2100 N Halsted St Chicago, IL
Signature Room at the 95th: You won’t find a restaurant much higher than this in Chicago, or anywhere for that matter! This contemporary American dining room is on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Center, the standout high-rise of the Chicago skyline. Steak, lobster and lamb are featured, if you can keep your eyes on the plate and not out the window!
The Signature can get busy, but there’s an adjacent lounge with the same view where you can sip a cocktail while waiting for a open table. Open for Brunch on Sunday too. 875 N Michigan Ave, John Hancock Center, Chicago, IL

Washboard abs are such a desirable quality that there are a huge amount of products out there designed to help people achieve their dream stomach. You will find all kinds of contraptions that support your head while you do crunches to machines that create resistance to increase your strength. The important thing to consider before spending money on a machine to work out at home is whether working out with this machine will be any more effective than just lying on your back and doing crunches on the floor. In the case of many, you are better off to save your money, go on a healthy diet, do some cardio and stick to regular crunches.
One of the most effective and economical abdomen exercise machines is an inflatable exercise ball. You can buy one for $12-20. They come in a variety of shapes and colors and are very easy to use. Many have an instructional video to get you started with your workout. They are very diverse and you can use them for a lot of different exercises, not just abs. I recommend them for abs because when you do a crunch on the exercise ball you have to use more muscles in order to balance. This means you are getting more impact for the time you work out. Multi-tasking is good!

So you took advantage of one of those credit repair credit cards with higher interest rates to help you repair your credit?
Or perhaps you missed a payment or two a while back and are now saddled with a fairly large balance on a high interest credit card. Maybe it was your first credit card, and you’re still paying the interest rate offered to those with no status credit. No matter what the reason, you’ve got a credit card balance on which you’re paying interest rates higher than average, and you’d like to cut those monthly payments. Welcome to the world of balance transfer credit cards.
Balance transfer credit cards are credit cards that offer a special interest rate on accounts transferred from another credit card. Essentially, when you take advantage of balance transfer credit cards, you’re borrowing money on your new credit card to pay off the balance on your old (higher interest) credit card, then repaying the new credit card company at a lower rate of interest. 0% balance transfer rates have been a popular incentive for credit card companies to attract business for the past several years.
Lately, though, many credit card companies have found that offering 0% balance transfers is a losing proposition for them as customers play credit card shuffle, moving their account balances from one card to another whenever the 0% interest rate ends. In order to combat that practice, credit card companies are getting more creative with their balance transfer credit cards. That’s why it’s important to compare balance transfer credit cards to be sure you’re getting the best possible deal - or at least one that actually will save you money in the long run.
Here are some things to watch for when comparing balance transfer credit cards:
- How long does the introductory balance transfer rate last?
The 0% balance transfer interest rate is usually an introductory rate. As long as you pay off the entire balance within the introductory period - usually six to nine months - you pay no interest at all on the amount that you’ve transferred.
- How much is the balance transfer fee?
Often, there’s a charge for transferring your balance from one card to another. Be sure to include that fee in your costs when you compare balance transfer credit cards.
- What is the interest rate AFTER the introductory period ends?
The introductory rate will end eventually. How much will you be paying in interest after it ends? Will that apply to the entire balance, or just the amount left on your transferred balance?
- Are there other restrictions?
The newer balance transfer credit cards offer other incentives than 0% interest rates on your transferred balance, or may include restrictions to how long the balance must remain on the card. Many of the new balance transfer credit cards offer an interest free second year, or a one-month free payment rather than a 0% transfer fee as a way to get around the credit card balance shufflers. When you compare balance transfer credit cards, be sure to make a note of any restrictions on the balance transfer offers.
So you can see it’s important to compare balance transfer credit cards to check the best deal. With credit card comparison sites you’ll find all the latest no interest balance transfer credit cards, along with details so that you can compare balance transfer credit cards to be sure you’re getting a deal that will save you money.

Marketing should be treated like a science. If you are serious about making money on the Internet, it is absolutely crucial that you spend some time testing your results and refining your approach.
Let me drive this point home. Say for example you have a website that gives you a visit to sale ratio of about 200 to 1. Not really bad as far as web sites go. Most do far worse.
Now, assume that you get 5,000 visits per month. Do the math. That’s 25 sales per month. If your profit from each sale is $50, you are making $1250 per month profit from your website.
Now, what would happen, if by changing one small thing on your website, you could improve that ratio to say 150 to 1. It may not seem significant, but let’s see how it works on paper.
Now, instead of 25 sales per month, you are doing 33. Multiply that by $50 and you are now making $1650 per month. That’s a difference of $400. It’s not like you’re having to work any harder for that additional $400. Your website is always there.
Now, the example I have shown you here is quite mild to some of the drastic improvements I have seen as a result of market testing. All my life I’ve heard people say “don’t work hard - work smart!”
This is excellent advice. Working smart means getting more from less effort.
Well, testing is a systematic way of helping you to work smart. It’s just like the scientific method, really. You may remember it from school. There are many versions of the scientific method for different disciplines and many scientists will
argue about which approach is best. For our purposes, let’s take a very bare-boned and simple version. It’s really all we need:
a. Generate a hypothesis.
b. Test your hypothesis by performing an experiment and recording the results.
c. Perform calculations and draw conclusions.
d. Confirm or refine your original hypothesis.
For example, let’s say in the above example, we hypothesize that by adding a money back guarantee, we will get a better visit to sale ratio. This is our hypothesis. To test this, we make the change on our websites and record our results. That’s our experiment. After a few weeks (or any period of time we determine to be sufficient) we conclude the experiment and perform calculation on our data. We then discover that the visit to sale ratio did, indeed, improve during the course of our test run. We can then draw a conclusion that our original hypothesis is correct. Seems pretty simple, right? Well, actually no -
* Controls and Statistical Significance*
In the preceding example, we did a pretty straightforward and simple test. However, the results we have drawn may not be valid.
For example, what if the majority of visitors we received before the test run came as the result of a banner ad campaign we were running? Then, without us knowing it, sometime during the campaign a company favorably reviews our product and drives people to our site. It could be the case that people who read that review were more likely to buy the product.
It could also be the case that they were much more likely to buy and that adding the guarantee lessened the effectiveness of the site. Or, it could even be the case that the guarantee did increase the effectiveness of the site, but not as much as we thought.
The problem is, we just don’t know. To address this issue and to improve the reliability of our tests, we need to establish “controls”. A control is a measure that allows us to isolate the factors which are causing the effects we record.
For example, a better way to run this test would have been to run two websites at the same time. Both of them identical in every way (promoted the same way, designed the same way - everything) except for the one element we think will make a difference. The site without the change is called the control site. The site with the change is the test subject.
This same principle can be applied to any other type of marketing. If you want to test the effectiveness of a banner ad, run two banner ads on the same site for the same period of time. If you run one banner ad on one site and the other on yet a different site, you can’t be sure that your results are valid.
Using strict control techniques improves the chances that your findings will be valid.
* Statistical Significance*
Even if we use good controls, we can still never be sure of our results. There may be something affecting the test we haven’t thought of. That’s why we also need to resolve ourselves to the fact that the results of one single test should not be accepted as conclusive.
Rather, we need to perform a great many tests and look at the over all trends. Only after we have compiled a considerable amount of information can we safely draw any conclusions.
Just how much testing is enough is up to you. You should test until you are satisfied, but be honest with yourself. Don’t just stop testing out of laziness!
* Turning tests into profits*
The idea here is to test as many different methods as possible, discover the most effective method, and crank up the volume on your best method. When you get into serious volume and your business is really doing well, even minor differences in results will have a major impact on the amount of money you take home. And sometimes very subtle and minor changes to a website will make huge differences in your results.
If you could find out which of your advertising campaigns was bringing in the most money for you, wouldn’t it make sense to put more effort into that campaign? Or do more of that type of campaign? Wouldn’t you be crazy not to?
… we’ll show you exactly how to track and monitor the results of all of your Internet marketing efforts. After we show you the logic behind each method of testing, we’ll show you the physical tools and techniques you need to employ to track your success.
Tracking is just recording the results of one campaign or another.
Testing is the systematic monitoring of these campaigns to discover what is working and what is not using the scientific method.

If you run a mobile auto detailing business or a mobile car wash business you may wish to consider doing business with regional car rental agencies. You see, typically the larger corporate rent-a-car type corporations may not be so easy for you to get as customers if you’re a small independent mobile car wash firm.
However, many regional Rent-A-Car companies and agencies do in fact make sense as clients. Also normally they do not require as much paperwork or insurance liability limits and this makes them excellent target customers. Now then, let’s take a look at one regional car rental company to understand the dynamics and how these companies operate; Doing Business with ACE Rent-A-Car
ACE Rent-A-Car is relatively new compared to the others discussed in this report. They currently operate in 15 states in the US and also in Athens Greece. Most of their lots have between 30-50 cars there at any one time and rotate about 300 cars. They occasionally sell cars at the rental lots with a giant sticker on the window, but sometimes they ship them to the nearest auto auction. ACE needs washing services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Typically you will wash anywhere from 10-15 cars. Their largest office is in Las Vegas.
To find locations nearest you go to:
http://www.acerentacar.com/default.asp?action=Locations
We recommend charging them a minimum of five cars to show up and $6.00 per car wash and vacuum. For detailing charge them $ 75.00. They keep their cars longer than most rental companies. Their cars will have over 40,000 miles on them at the time of sale, so they will need extra attention. Do not ever buy one of their rent-a-cars, they are shot, as they get every last drop out of them. You may wish to consider this if you wish to expand your mobile car wash business in 2006.
