For What Purpose?

So you want to be successful. For What Purpose? When I first
heard that question I said, “You’ve got to be crazy, to have a
lot of money. What else?” This was quickly followed by the
question, For What Purpose?

I have to tell you that I went dead silent. My mental wheels
were spinning. My eyes glazed over into what can best be
described as a “thousand yard” stare.

Until that point in time I hadn’t really considered what was my
purpose for anything. I thought I knew the “why” of what I was
doing with my life. I was working to support my family. That’s
“why” I had a job. But there was always the statement quietly
running in the back of my mind “…there had to be more to life
than this.”

Then it hit me. I was thinking and talking about the DOing in my
life and not the BEing. You and I are called Human Beings, not
Human Doings, and yet the “do-ing-ness” was the direction that I
had learned to travel. From where did that come?

As I looked at my life I discovered that there were thought
patterns that had been with me for as long as I can remember.
They were so rooted in my mind that they all but transparent.
And it was those patterns brought into realization through my
words and outer activities that were in charge. No wonder I
thought that “..there had to be more to life than this.”

Let me tell you, right here and now, that I didn’t come from a
dysfunctional family. I wasn’t born into poverty, nor with a
“silver spoon”. I wasn’t abused as a child. My family loves me
and it shows in a thousand ways. There was nothing “wrong” with
me.

I write these words so that you will KNOW you don’t have to have
had a “horrible” childhood and/or life to date to pick up these
now transparent patterns. Regardless of your background it is
the patterns you have picked up and held tightly together,
running in the background, that are the roadblocks you see in
the here and now which prevent you from being who you want to
be; Doing what you want to do: Having what you want to have.

Let me give you an example. When I was about six years old my
parents divorced. As I was the eldest of two boys I was told
that I was the “man of the house.” At six years of age I had no
idea of how to be the man of the house. This thought was
enforced by being repeated by loving family members throughout
my childhood. I was often told that I was “..doing a great job
as man of the house…” The truth of the matter was that I
didn’t know how to be the man of the house. But, I quickly
learned that as long as I did nothing “wrong” they would love
me.

Over the years this developed into, “…If I do nothing, they
will still love me…” As a result there are many instances
where I “did nothing” It was a safe place to be. It was also a
roadblock to becoming successful. For doing nothing results in
nothing.

So what to do? The very first thing that I had to dig deep
within and uncover what I knew was there. My Purpose for BEing.
With careful cultivation I developed a statement that make my
heart sing. The purpose of my life is to share with individuals
(just like you) the REALITY of Living every moment with Love,
Harmony and Mindful Abundance.

Now when those thoughts of “do nothing” appear, I choose to
shift towards truly living on Purpose. I use that word “towards”
on purpose as well. We get so excited that we recogize these old
limiting patterns are running the show so we are constantly
shifting….and not getting anywhere with it. If a shift is
based in fear, and the shift is based in running away from your
old limiting patterns then it is destined to be shallow and not
entirely effective.

My good friend, Julie Jordan Scott, put it this way: “When a
shift is based on Moving Towards your TRUE purpose and you are
INTENTIONALLY and truly FOCUSED on your life purpose, you have a
tool which can be life changing.”

So now when the question is asked, For What Purpose? I have an
answer.

The Tummy Tuck Scar and Other Post-Surgery Concerns

An abdominoplasty is a major surgical procedure. It involves
cutting your abdominal skin and repairing your abdominal muscles
in order to get rid of loose skin. As with any invasive surgical
procedure, you will have scars resulting from the surgery.

A tummy tuck scar can run horizontally across the entire width
of your body from hip to hip, depending on how much skin you
lose. As well, depending on the procedure, a tummy tuck scar can
run vertically anywhere from your pelvic area to the chest area,
although this is not common. A tummy tuck scar is permanent.
However, surgeons will usually cut the skin under the swimsuit
line so that the tummy tuck scar is not as noticeable, or even
viewable. Keep in mind that a tummy tuck scar might look worse
within the first three to six months after the surgical
procedure. This is a normal phenomenon and you shouldn’t be
alarmed. It will take about 9 to 12 months before the tummy tuck
scar begins to flatten out and lighten in color, blending in
better with your natural skin tone.

The severity of the scars can depend on how much skin was
removed, how well your body heals, how well your body scars, the
skill of the individual surgeon, and what technique was used. Be
sure to consult with your doctor as to what methods he uses, as
well as incision types, techniques, and placements. He might
even take a marker and draw the surgical site on your body so
you can get an idea of what might show after you heal. Once your
surgery is complete, you might be put on bedrest for at least
the first week. You won’t be allowed to lift heavy objects or
participate in any strenuous activities. You will be encouraged
to walk around a few times per day for a minute or two at a
time. This is partly to prevent blood clots from forming in your
leg and causing a thrombosis condition, which could be
potentially fatal. Note that you won’t be able to stand
completely straight up at first. You’ll have a hunched-over
posture. The surgeon will recommend that you stay bent at a 45
degree angle for the first few days of recovery. Being in such a
position for prolonged periods of time can cause a lot of back
discomfort. The doctor might prescribe some kind of muscle
relaxant or valium.

During your operation, “drains” will be placed in your body to
help discharge fluid build-up. These drains will be removed
within a week or two after the procedure. After they are
removed, you’ll probably be able to stand straight up. If the
drains are needed to remain in your body for a longer period of
time, you will need to use an abdominal pressure garment, which
you might be instructed to wear for at least a month or two. At
this time, you’ll notice the tummy tuck scar getting worse and
some swelling and discoloration will occur. The amount of
swelling and discoloration depends on the individual patient and
how well she heals. Regardless, it is a normal occurrence.

Stretch Marks And Pregnancy - Causes And Prevention

Stretch marks. Striae Gravidarum. The marks of pregnancy. Call them what you will. But they are the one thing that all women dread will occur as soon as they get pregnant.

  • But what are stretch marks anyway? And why do they occur?

    Well, the reason lies in the anatomy of the skin. The skin has two layers - a thin upper layer called the epidermis, and a thicker, lower layer called the dermis. Scattered in the dermis are fine protein filaments called elastin that, like a piece of rubber band, are capable of stretching on being pulled. But just as a rubber band can stretch only so far and no further, these elastin fibres can also be stretched only to a certain extent. If stretched further, they snap. The increasing bulk of the uterus during pregnancy causes the skin to stretch to a great extent and the elastin fibres are torn. The torn elastin produces scars on the skin called Stria Gravidarum or stretch marks.

  • They occur on the lower abdomen of all pregnant women, right?
    Well, right and wrong. They appear in most pregnant women, but not in all and not just on the lower abdomen. Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched in a very short period of time, as in pregnancy or in obesity. They occur:

    • In the lower abdomen in pregnancy.
    • Along the sides of the breasts either in pregnancy or in obesity.
    • Upper thighs.
    • Occasionally even on the inner sides of the upper arms.

  • But can stretch marks be prevented?
    Thankfully, the answer is yes, to a certain extent. Although some women are genetically prone to develop stretch marks, it has been noted that athletes and women accustomed to heavy, physical labour get very few or no stretch marks. This is regardless of whether their female relatives have stretch marks or not. The reason for this is that that these women have very well-developed and strong abdominal muscles. These muscles can easily take the weight of the growing uterus and prevent it from pressing forwards on the skin - rather like wearing a strong muscular belt under the skin. The skin is thus stretched less, less elastin fibres are damaged, and there are fewer stretch marks.

    Again a supple, healthy, well moisturized skin is capable of stretching more without any lasting damage. So if a woman can strengthen her abdominal muscles and keep her skin healthy and supple, there is less chance of her developing stretch marks.

  • But how? How do I develop my muscles and keep my skin moisturized?
    Gentle exercises for the abdominal muscles can be started as soon as pregnancy has been confirmed or even as pregnancy is being planned.

    • Exercise 1 : Standing erect, raise both arms above the head. Bend forward slowly to touch your toes. Hold the position for a count of 100. Then slowly straighten up. Do this exercise at least once daily.
    • Exercise 2 : Standing erect, raise both arms above the head and clasp your hands. Now bend slowly to your left as far down as you feel comfortable. Hold for a count of 10. Straighten up slowly and then bend to your right. Hold to a count of 10. Straighten up. Exhale as you are bending and inhale while straightening up. This makes one set. Do at least 3 sets once daily.
    • Exercise 3 : Stand straight with feet about 12 inches apart. Place hands on your back at the waist. Slowly bend back, as far back as you feel comfortable. Hold to a count of 10. Straighten up. Now bend forward slowly, hold the position to a count of 10. Then straighten up. Exhale as you are bending and inhale while straightening up. This makes one set. Do at least 3 sets once daily.

    These three exercises will strengthen the abdominal and back muscles as well as gently stretch the skin. They also improve the posture during pregnancy.

    Caring for the skin : Keep the skin moisturized by applying oil - olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or any good baby oil - thoroughly over the skin of the abdomen, hips and thighs. Massage it in with sweeping upward strokes. You can do this before you exercise so that the oil is properly absorbed as the skin is stretched during exercise. This will make the skin supple and healthy and capable of stretching without damaging the elastin fibres.

    A Good Diet : Take a good diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and adequate liquids. And do not forget your daily vitamins. This will ensure a healthy and supple skin.

  • But what happens if the stretch marks have already occured? How do I get rid of them?
    The good thing about stretch marks is that they fade over time. When they are first formed, they are reddish or purplish, but later they become thin silvery lines that may not be visible at first glance. The bad thing about stretch marks is that they can be removed permanently only by surgery. The elastin and collagen growth can be stimulated to some extent by cocoa butter, Vitamin E, wheat germ oil and lanolin. But to remove the marks completely, laser surgery, blue light therapy and other surgical treatments are the only options. Many creams and lotions available on the market also claim to be able to remove stretch marks but have yet to be medically proved.

THE POWER OF THE UNCONSCIOUS MIND - the secret to student success

One of the best ways I know of to give a massive boost to your ability to learn and to enhance your grades beyond all recognition is to leverage the immense power of your unconscious mind.

What on earth does this mean???

Well, read on ……

Roughly two million bits of information per second come into the human nervous system. We are literally bombarded with information. To maintain sanity, our conscious mind filters out most of the stimuli and Miller (1956) discovered we can consciously handle only seven plus or minus two bits of information at a time.

The unconscious mind deals with everything else over and above the seven (plus or minus two) bits of information that you are not consciously paying attention to at a particular time. As soon as we switch our attention to something, then it becomes conscious. Some parts of your physiology will always be unconscious. This should not surprise us really. Our unconscious mind takes care of us all the time! We do not run our heart, lungs, kidneys, immune system etc… consciously do we?

I want to show you how to bypass the conscious mind in order to access the immense powers of your unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is around 90% of your total mind power as opposed to the 10% of the mind that you usually use in your normal daily waking state. The unconscious mind is a source of great treasure - of skill, of memory and experience.

The power of positive thinking can be significantly enhanced and reinforced by the use of affirmations. An affirmation is a short statement in the present tense repeated frequently to impress itself onto and be accepted by the unconscious mind. The ideal affirmation must be short and totally unambiguous. This is important, as the unconscious mind cannot easily assimilate long or complex statements. The unconscious mind is much more easily influenced by short, appropriately worded statements.

The majority of people however, are in the habit of negative thinking - of dwelling on problem areas in their life by repeating exactly what they do not wish to happen. This often ends up compounding the original problems and making them even worse. For example, a student might keep on saying to themselves:

“I will never be successful in my examinations”.

Or: “I always get sidetracked when I am studying”.

Or: “I simply can’t concentrate”.

The student who constantly repeats these negative affirmations, either consciously or unconsciously, will be much less likely to succeed in their examinations, and may never be able to concentrate or get their studying done.

Underlying almost every negative emotion is a thought or belief, and most often these are unhealthy thoughts or beliefs. By unhealthy I mean they are not effective in getting you what you want in your life. They don’t serve you.

The belief (often unconscious) is like a trigger. It sets you up to fail in certain situations.

Remember this! If you do not THINK and fill your head with positive thoughts and beliefs, then negative ones will always come in to fill the gaps.

Please NEVER, ever, ever, ever underestimate your own abilities. It is never a question of can you do something. The real question is will you?

In the examples above, the student was repeating the negative affirmations in their head. They should instead replace them with the equivalent positive affirmations. Such as:

“I know I will be successful in my examinations “.

Or: “I am focussed when I sit down to study”.

Or: “my concentration is improving”.

This might well seem difficult to do, particularly in what may seem to be difficult circumstances or where the reality appears to be totally the opposite. However, believe me, like most things, it is just a question of practice.

Where attention goes, energy flows! You become what you think about most of the time.

The more often an affirmation is repeated, consciously or otherwise, the more quickly and effectively it will become real. But take care because this works just as effectively for both positive and negative affirmations. A great time to repeat positive affirmations is just before drifting off to sleep at night or just after waking in the morning before you get up. At these times your conscious mind communicates best with your unconscious mind. If you can repeat the affirmations throughout the day and even write them down and place copies around your home, so much the better.

An even more powerful possibility exists as an alternative to affirmations that are stated aloud or within the mind. This is the power of “Subliminal messages”.

The power of subliminal messages has been proven over many years to be a highly effective way of programming the unconscious mind by using either audio or visual methods. In fact,subliminal messages are so powerful in the way they work on the unconscious mind, that in 1974 the US government banned all forms of subliminal message advertising on radio and television.

Subliminal messages reach the unconscious mind by working at a level that cannot be detected by the conscious mind. The conscious mind therefore never has an opportunity to reject them and the unconscious mind can receive and act upon them.

There are two main ways of using subliminal messages in a most powerful way - visual and audio.

Visual subliminal messages are affirmations that are flashed before the eyes so quickly that the conscious mind cannot perceive them. The affirmations therefore go directly to the unconscious mind, which perceives and acts upon them immediately.

Audio subliminal messages work in a similar way by being played at a frequency that is just above the normal threshold of human hearing. Again, as with visual subliminal messages, although the conscious mind cannot perceive these affirmations, the all-powerful unconscious mind can perceive them, and will therefore immediately act upon them.

Both audio and visual subliminal messages are extremely powerful in accessing the enormous potential of the unconscious mind.

Once you understand the power of the unconscious mind and start to harness it, you can skyrocket your grades and the learning process becomes a natural rather than a forced activity.

The next morning, I plugged in a cassette tape a newfound friend had sent me. Though the tape was of poor quality, I heard something that has become my new framework:

You have within you a god-given vibrational meter that tells you what is good for you and what is not good for you. That vibrational meter is your emotions. If something feels good, then it is good for you. If something does not feel good, then it isn’t.

I knew immediately that this business proposal was NOT good for me, because I did not feel entirely good about it. In fact, I was making myself sick trying to make it feel right when it was not.

What a relief it was to have this new framework from which to make decisions.

I had clarity and peace about not preceding with this business partnership AND I immediately wrote out a list of characteristics that I WANTED in a business partnership. Within a few days, I met my current business partner who is an absolute perfect match to that want list.

What Is Diagnosis

“Diagnosis” is a fancy name given to the process of identifying
diseases. It is a Greek name. Break it down; “dia” means “by”
and “gnosis” means “knowledge”. How do I diagnose my illness?
You don’t! Diagnosis is for doctors and physicians only. They
determine your disease by the signs and symptoms that it gives
you.

If it is unclear by symptoms as to what you are sick with, you
will consult a physician. A physician will take their best
guesses as to your problems name, and medically test you for it.
After your diagnosis is complete through blood test, medical
imaging, saliva samples, biopsy, electrocardiogram, stool
samples, or urine tests, the physician will decide which is the
best way to treat you.

A Diagnosis is sometimes made by process of
elimination. This is called a “differential diagnosis”. Through
investigation of symptoms and consultations with other doctors
or physicians, they are able to tell what you DO NOT have, thus
leaving them with your most likely disease.

In the 1900’s, a man named William Osler began to “practice”
medicine. He used the principles of diagnosis and treatment to
reduce suffering and increase life expectancy. Osler decided
that to practice medicine you must learn to identify diseases,
understand where they come from and how they work, and then
decide which is the best way to cure them. This is known today
as “The Oslerian Ideal”. And we have this man to thank for
medicine practice today. I suppose, however, we could also thank
him for waiting rooms…

Hard Money: Borrowers Solution for Low Credit, Foreclosure and Bankruptcy

A couple from Palmdale, California called my office Monday afternoon asking if we can help them save their home. They are delayed in their mortgage payments for 3 months and their house is in foreclosure. They have kids, they love their house, and they don’t want to move anywhere else. They have low credit, in foreclosure and have high debt ratio so banks turned them down. Knowing the urgency of the couple’s situation, I started asking them questions about their financial situation, what affected their credit, how much mortgages they owe, liens, collections, judgments, etc. At the end of our phone call conversation, I told the borrower that we can get them a loan through hard money investors. The borrower was surprised to hear that they finally can get a loan and avoid losing their home. Applying for a loan through regular banks is subject to limited loan to value, debt ratio, income documentation and credit rating guidelines. For homeowners or borrowers who have low credit rating, in notice of default, foreclosure or bankruptcy, they will immediately get declined by banks. Does it mean that they cannot get a loan and lose their home? Absolutely NO!

Hard money or private money loan is the solution for low credit borrowers and who are in financial distress such as notice of default, foreclosure, bankruptcy, credit delinquency, judgments, collections, tax liens, etc. Hard money is equity based, non-fico based lending. As long as the borrower has equity left in the house after the deductions of all mortgages owed, liens, charge offs and collections, interest payment delays, and prepayment penalty. Hard money represents hard-earned money of individual investors, groups, corporations, insurance companies, and hedge fund managers who are able to offer financing based on equity or collateral from the borrower.

Hard money investors or lenders have a standard 65% Loan To Value(LTV). In some cases there are investors who can go up to 70-75% LTV. For hard money investors to go up to 80-90%LTV, they will demand to be on title to secure their investment. At 65%LTV, it is possible to submit a loan as stated income. Beyond 65%LTV will require full income and asset documentation. For borrowers who are going through financial hardship such as employment termination/downsizing, medical emergencies, natural disasters, divorce, business loss, or other valid circumstance that puts them in financial distress, hard money lenders are willing to work with them as long as they show an ability to repay the loan or have an ‘exit strategy’ when the term is over.

Hard money is short term financing, usually within 6 months to 1 year, although 2 or 3 year terms are also available. The purpose of obtaining a hard money loan is to provide immediate solution to foreclosure or low credit borrower that needs immediate cash to payoff debts or the existing loan has already mature and needs to be paid off.

Hard money is the last recourse for borrowers if they can’t get regular bank financing. Hard money or private money loans are much higher in rates and points. The rate can range from 8.5, 11, 12, 13 up to 15% depending on loan to value and income documentation. Although hard money is non-fico based which can go below 500 mid score, the credit history of the borrower can also affect the rate that they are getting. The high rates and points for hard money is an investment caution for hard money lenders or private investors. High risk borrowers present a potential headache to the investors when they default in payment. Going through the foreclosure proceedings, attorney fees and selling the property turnaround time are factors that bring high liability to hard money lenders.

The reality of hard money is ‘high return vs. high risk’ business relationship. Hard money lenders or private investors are willing to take on high risks as long as it’s a good investment return. Not all borrowers have good paying ability, which caused the private investors to charge higher rates to prepare for future risks and carry the property through foreclosure and re-sell the property. If refinancing for hard money will not work for homeowners/borrowers who are in notice of default, foreclosure or bankruptcy, there are other creative ways that they can get help from hard money investors. Such creative ways may include a sale contract, lease purchase or the investor going on title and giving time for the homeowner to sell the property. These are not easy to do but can be done if the homeowner doesn’t have other options. The advantages of hard money loan allow the borrower to get out from financial distress by paying off debts, save home from foreclosure, avoid bankruptcy, and ability to rebuild credit within 6 months to 1 year timeframe. Hard money offers a ‘great rescue’ for homeowners and borrowers during hard times.

Common loan programs include Raw Land, Construction, High End Million Dollar Estates, Apartments, Hotels, Motels, Mixed Use Properties, Office Building, Shopping Mall, Mobile Homes in Park, Gas Station, Restaurant, Hospitals, Golf Courses, Casinos, Convalescent Homes, Grocery Stores, Manufactured Homes, and even Business Loans.

I decided to start a series about how to learn and master Texas Hold’em because this is the most played game in the online poker rooms and it has large popularity. These tutorials are good for new poker players and we think the advanced players can find useful tips here, too.

These articles try to show how to start to play online poker, how to behave at the tables and how to win in almost every situation.
